Hi help would be highly appreciated since this is quite frustrating! So i bought a 2nd hand macbook late 2008 off ebay and everything was cleared off. I selected the default option to reinstall yosemite, i agree to terms and conditions, i enter my own apple id and this pops up 'this item is temporarily unavailable'. That is why i cannot install yosemite. PLS send help ! xD

Unless you've made an USB installer for a newer Mac OS X version or can install through Target Disk mode or NetInstall(this requires Mac OS X Server), you need to install Snow Leopard from a DVD and then update the computer to the desired version.

Oh thanks. in that case, i might just buy an el capitan installer off ebay cost $20.
You don't want to do that as it may not be tied to your Apple ID and you also don't know what else is installed on the drive.
Following Niel's suggestion is the safe way to restore your computer.
